Service Engineer - IJmuiden
Are you the technical expert who ensures ships can navigate safely and optimally? As a Service Engineer, you are responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of advanced Navigation and Communication Systems (NavCom) on board various seagoing vessels and yachts. Based in the Amsterdam region, you work on location both locally and internationally.
Maritime Service Engineer
Problem-solving, customer-oriented, and proactive technician.
Location: IJmuiden
What does your day look like?
You start the day with the schedule prepared for you by the Service Coordinator. However, in this role, no day is the same: the work is incredibly dynamic. Today you head out to a container ship in the Port of Amsterdam whose radar is malfunctioning, and tomorrow you might step aboard a luxury mega-yacht or fly unexpectedly to a job abroad. You are given the freedom to chart your own course. Once on board, you dive straight into specialized and challenging work. Using your expertise, you track down the fault, replace the part, and test the system. When the systems are running flawlessly again and the ship can depart safely, it gives a huge thrill. You did it again!
What will you be doing?
As a Service Engineer, you bring state-of-the-art maritime technology to life on board a wide variety of vessels. You install and configure advanced NavCom systems such as radars, gyrocompasses, and ECDIS installations, and ensure that all hardware and software run flawlessly. For example, when a radar antenna jams, satellite communication stops working, or electronics malfunction, you dig into the complex fault until it is resolved. On board, you are the expert: you advise the captain and the crew on the use of their high-tech equipment. Finally, through accurate reports and certifications, you ensure that the ship officially complies with all international legislation and can leave the port safely.
What characterizes you?
An interest in shipping certainly comes in handy here! Just like your attention to quality, proactivity, and solution-oriented thinking.
This is what we think you could use to make this position a success:
- Technical background: you have completed an MBO education (level 3/4) in Electrical Engineering (and/or Electronics)

- Flexible adventurer: you have no fear of heights or a 9-to-5 mentality and enjoy working at irregular hours or traveling for short jobs abroad

- Residing in the IJmuiden area
- Driving license B
- You have a valid working permit and are allowed to work in the Netherlands
